It’s not all about colder climates, either. My last round of cold-adaption was from a trip to Switzerland in late January: temperatures hovered down around -12c in the mornings and evenings. I had my winter shopping spree all on – thermal leggings, padded trousers, winter parka, beanie hat… some of my local mates had zipped up their fleeces and pulled their hats over their ears. But when my friends from that area went to Scotland on a whisky-tasting trip, they saw weather forecasts in the range +12 to +16c, and locals walking around in t-shirts, so went out similarily attired. Only to find that 12c in Scotland is 12c of atlantic air: 70% humidity, sometimes 90%. It strips the heat from you eighteen times faster than the arid, chilly air of Switzerland! They had to go inside and get more layers.
